Formation consists of 195 medium-format photographs I took walking around my block. I faced inward and kept the camera at a consistent height. Looking at the photographs in sequence recreates the walk for the viewer.
In Formation, I use the city block to look at the border between public and private activity; the imprints of people on the geological and manmade landscape; the street defined by each walker's projection onto it. I look at the personalization of common spaces; expression of societal values through commercial ephemera (like typographical forms); society as well as the individual defined by its objects and particularly its abandoned objects.
